Flames of War Tanksgiving 2013
TREAD HEADS
REJOICE!!! Hallelujah.
Ok enough of
that, Battlefront has once again announce Tanksgiving. Short
story is you can bring up to 4 companies of up 1500 points per company and only
bring companies on which the combat platoons are rates as tank teams, IE lots
and lots or TANKS!! I copied the a snippet of the rules and regulations for the
events below so you have an idea of what you need to get ready for the full article
is linked above,
RULES
AND REGULATIONS
1. All players may
only bring companies in which their combat platoons are rated as tank teams. A
platoon must have at least half of the teams rated as tank teams.
2. All players may
bring up to four companies. Each company cannot exceed 1500 points and a new
company must be purchased if your company exceeds 1500 points.
3. Each player may
only bring one infantry platoon per company and as many platoons that are rated
as gun teams as are legally allowed in each company.
4. No player may have
air power in any of their companies. Special Rules for air power are provided
below.
5. Each side
calculates how many total companies they have and compares that to the total number
of enemy companies.
6.
This scenario uses the Battle group Morale, Prepared Positions, Mobile
Battle, Ambush and Tanksgiving Reserves (see below) special
rules.
Some of the “local” gaming stores in my area holding events

Where were you 12 years ago today 9-11-01
Today is the 12th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, NY, The Pentagon, VA and United Airlines Flight 93, that was targeted at Washington DC but crashed near Shanksville, PA. In all nearly 3000 people were killed in the deadliest terrorist attack to date in US history.
(south tower) immediately after being struck by United Airlines Flight 175 |
On September 11, 2001 I was working just outside Austin, TX in a job at the time I was somewhat happy doing that was until I saw the media coverage of the attacks. Over the next few days I began to wonder what impact, if any, I was having on the World in my job. As I came to the realization I was not making or going to make a difference or impact in my current career I tried to think what I need change to make that impact. My decision was to pack my family up move them in with my in laws in Arizona and serve this country as best I could. 12 Years later I continue to serve and have to come to love it and would not have changed my decision, it is what the final factor in becoming interested in miniature war gaming, a method on how to visually and methodically conduct battles without losing people or spiraling into the elementary school mentality of “ I shot you first “.
My apology if this is a bit of a story instead of anything useful but it did get me into our great Hobby.
Where were you on 9-11? How did it change your life or outlook? Let me know your story in the comments.

Cost of War Gaming
I was scanning my blog list this morning an saw a post on HOUSE OF PAINCAKES what really caught my eye was the cost comparison between a Forge World Space Marine Captain and a Games Workshop Space Marine Captain.
Once again reminded why I stopped Warhammer 40K as a hobby. Do not get me wrong I love Games Workshops models it was what originally got me started in miniature war gaming I'd say 1998 or so. I just don't understand the inevitable price creep in every model every year where as I can go to other game systems and get the same scale and get two or three times the number of models for the same price. Take WARLORD GAMES's Bolt Action's Blitzkrieg German Infantry Plastic Box set you get 30 models for the same price. I will admit I have no experience with the Bolt Action line personally but from what I have seen on the web they are as good as any of Games Workshops products.
BATTLEFTONT'S Flames of War being my current game of choice comparing 15mm to 28mm isn't fair but you sure do get a lot more models for comparable price. Some gamers its all about the game system others the models those just getting into it "again" it can be the cost the initial out lay for an army can be high several hundreds of dollars in many cases. I just don't know if Games Workshop realizes that it is alienating a portion of its market that may or may not return. Personally I don't have any plans to work on the mountain of Imperial guard I have stored in the closet and I am considering selling them but the jury is still out. Thanks for reading my little rant please leave comments.

Why I started my Blog
My initial intend for this blog is:
- Keep me sane by documenting what I've have been working on so if /when "life" interferes with hobby time, as it inevitably will, I can look back and have my "Ah Ha" moment that is what I was doing and pick up where I left off.
- Try and keep motivated to finish a project. As I have tried to start into the War gaming hobby at least twice before and failed to complete an army or really play a games.
- Make a small repository for some tips and trick of modeling and painting I find instead of the inevitable “I remember seeing X put can’t find it anymore”
- Hopefully inspire one person to pick up the war gaming hobby and give it a try or provide help to someone looking for help in the hobby.
