Warlord Games: Bolt Action: New Katyusha Rocket Launcher

Just in time for my Soviet army build Warlord released the new model below.

New: Katyusha Rocket Launcher

New this week – we have some supporting fire rolling up for the Soviets in the form of the long-awaited Katyusha!
WGB-RI-133-Katyusha-b

Our particular model is the Katyusha Zis-6 BM-13 Urss – based upon the rugged and widely used  Soviet Zis-6 truck chassis
WGB-RI-133-Katyusha-c
First seeing action in 1939, the Katyusha Rocket Launcher (know as ‘Little Katie’ to the Russians) was a system for mounting platforms onto trucks, tanks, artillery tractors, armoured trains and even some boats in order to provide fire support for the advancing Soviet forces on the Eastern Front.
WGB-RI-133-Katyusha-e
The BM-13 system (as featured on our model) featured rockets that were 80cm long by 13.2cm in diameter. Each one weighed 43kg – and were loaded in batches of 14-to-18 rockets per salvo. The rockets were mounted upon large steel racks of launch rails – and this entire assembly was (in the case of our model) bolted onto the back of the ubiquitous Zis-6 utility truck which was used elsewhere on the Eastern Front to shuttle troops to-and-from the frontline as well as equipment, and for many other purposes.
Though it was initially conceived simply as a cheap, improvised method alternative to traditional artillery, early tests showed that just four of these trucks could launch as many as 48 rockets more than 9km in a single ten-second salvo.
WGB-RI-133-Katyusha-f
In practise, the Katyusha was woefully inaccurate when compared to traditional forms of artillery – however the Soviets soon learned that the combined firepower of several trucks could be used to saturate a single area, to devastating effect. When combined with ‘Shoot and Scoot’ tactics of launching a quick salvo and quickly repositioning, before the enemy had chance to retaliate – German troops came to fear the distinct Howling sound of these iconic weapons of the Soviet army.
The inaccuracy of this weapon often didn’t matter – the morale-sapping experience of having your position bombarded by wave-after-wave of high explosive rockets would often be enough to send soldiers running and earned it the name ‘Stalin’s Organ’ by the Germans.
WGB-RI-133-Katyusha-d
The Katyusha first rolled onto the battlefield during the early days of the German invasion of Russia in 1939, and it remained in use right up until the final days of the war during the assault on Berlin. It is estimated that 10,000 of these Rocket Launchers were produced.

In Bolt Action

Cost: 64pts (inexperienced), 80pts (Regular), 96pts (Veteran)
Weapons: 1 forward-facing Katyusha multiple rocket launcher (heavy mortar)
Damage value: 6+ (soft-skin)
Special Rules: Multiple launcher

Bolt Action: Soviet Army

Getting ready to start a Bolt Action Soviet Army thought I'd start off with some armor T-34 and T-34/85 from Rubicon Models. Looking to model a Summer Soviet army something in the Kursk time frame.

Looking for some ways to detail or upgrade the models was thinking of adding some weld seams and some casting textures to them especially since Soviet vehicles were well known for there rough casting an weld marks. I'll post some work in progress posts.

Bolt Action: Duel in the Sun

Osprey Publishing and Warlord Games announced the release of Duel in the Sun for release in February 2016. I look forward to seeing this one I've always been interested in the Desert war.

With Duel in the Sun, players can take command of the doughty Desert Rats of Montgomery's Eighth Army, the fast-moving and hard-hitting raiders of the Long Range Desert Group (LRDG), or Rommel's mighty Afrika Korps to recreate some of the most iconic battles of World War II--Operations Compass, Crusader and Torch, Tobruk, and Alamein among others.
Offering scenarios, special rules, and new troop types, this theater book for Bolt Action also takes players across the Mediterranean from North Africa, where they can follow the Italian Campaign from the invasion of Sicily, through the battles for Anzio and Cassino, to the final assaults on the Gothic Line.

Warlord Games: Bolt Action: Summer Offensive Update

Been waiting for this really need to buckle down and get painting and building.

Bolt Action Summer Offensive: War is coming!

Last month, we announced the Bolt Action Summer Offensive – a huge global online Bolt Action campaign that allows you to play loads of battles and register the results online to influence the course of the war!
BA-campaign-logo2
We had a fantastic response, with messages, interest, and questions pouring in!
July is upon us and Warlord HQ reverberates with the sound of tank engines being fired-up, troops marching on manoeuvres, and the firing range echoes with seemingly constant gunfire in preparation for the coming action!
So, with war almost upon us, we thought it about time to shed a little more light on the Summer Offensive…
Bolt Action Summer Offensive (2)

Due to launch in two weeks time, we’ll open up enlistment next week – you’ll be asked for a handful of key details to log you onto the system…
Bolt Action Summer Offensive (1)
The campaign is due to run for 6 weeks over summer – with each week representing one year of the war;
Week 1 – 1939 – 1940
Week 2 – 1940 – 1941
Week 3 – 1941 – 1942
Week 4 – 1942 – 1943
Week 5 – 1943 – 1944
Week 6 – 1944 – 1945
Each week, you can play games of Bolt Action using the new rules we’ll be introducing during the course of the campaign and a specific scenario each week to represent the era being covered. Players then log-in, and register their results.
Once one player logs their results, their After Action Report is automatically sent across to their opponent – who checks the details, and confirms them. The results are then logged into the system, the numbers crunched, and the website maintains a real-time record of the global victories and losses overall, and for each Theatre.
Bolt Action Summer Offensive (3)
Along the way, there’ll be special rewards for players. As you play more games, and log more results, you’ll be rewarded for your bravery and, of course, we have some surprises planned too…
So – you have two weeks to prepare, soldier! Lace your boots, replenish your canteen, gather the troops, and get ’em painted!
Now’s the perfect time to take a look at our recently released ‘Build an Army’ offers…
