Mantic Games: The Walking Dead: All Out War

Ok it's been a while since I posted been trying to actually work on Miniatures and life but came across this today and have to post hopefully it will be awesome.

THE TWELVE DAYS OF MANTIC CHRISTMAS #12: THE WALKING DEAD

Hi everyone,
Ronnie here. Happy New Year – I hope 2015 was a good one and that 2016 is even better.
We’ve been building up to this for some time, and I’d like to proudly announce that Mantic will be making ‘The Walking Dead Miniatures Game’, titled ‘All OUT WAR’, under license from Skybound Entertainment.
The Walking Dead
The Walking Dead: All Out War will be set in the engaging and immersive post-apocalyptic world of The Walking Dead comic series. Having the comic license gives us far more freedom to reproduce from all the rich and evocative artwork, and over 149 issues of the comics. This offered the biggest choice of factions and characters – in fact the widest scope possible to explore the setting and heroes. Finally the comic license also gives us direct access to the Skybound team, and insight into the world by the people who actually created it! We will bring the pages to life with fantastic models that will cry out to be painted, slick game play and it’ll all be part of an awesomely fun gaming experience.

Why The Walking Dead?
When I set up Mantic I had a very clear vision for what I wanted the company to stand for and to be about. I have enjoyed collecting, painting and gaming with miniatures almost all my life. Certainly from a very early age I always had plastic soldiers of one kind or another very close at hand. As I got older that developed into my grown-up hobby and one that I have managed to work in all my adult life (and I hope I am lucky enough that continues until retirement – although I am not sure my wife would agree!).
Mantic was set up to share that love of gaming with miniatures with as large an audience as possible. I felt the need to create Mantic because the companies in the market were actually going the other way – they were making gaming more expensive, more complicated and more restrictive. I wanted to share my wonderful hobby with as many people as possible. I knew it would take years to build up the company to the point where it would have a good-sized gamer base and the infrastructure to cope with the growth (and plateaus). Mantic has been helped by huge support from the community through its short life – both for the business generally and for all our Kickstarter campaigns. We now have a truly global wargame with Kings of War and the rapidly evolving and very exciting sci-fi Warpath Universe. In the coming years we will continually add to, and develop, both of these.
However, I believe to really open up gaming to new markets you have to start with an IP people know and love – and to do it in a big way it has to be a truly massive, well known license. It has to be a property that people love, feel deeply about and want to get more involved with. Then you have to make the game world class, simple, fun and exciting, with tactics and army building. The miniatures have to be astounding so you want to get on and paint them and bring the world to life. And let’s be honest, full armies take a long time to collect and get painted – so something with 10 or so models is a great place to start, especially if it scales up a little along the way ;).
TWD-zombies02-urban-cropped05
When I really started digging in to this subject and actually talking to license holders talking there was one property that struck me as perfect. It covered all the points above – and then some. It has a global following and has leaders with character; interesting factions and a world we can relate to. Once I had gone and met them I was even more certain.
In the next four weeks we’ll let you see the game design, the miniatures and the vision for the system – and look out on the Mantic blog this week for all the inside news – including my visit to the Skybound studio. I hope to see you there!

The Walking Dead: All Out War miniatures game is due out in stores late 2016. The first one will be sent tomorrow with a never-before-seen shot of The Walking Dead miniatures.

Warlord Games: Bolt Action: New Katyusha Rocket Launcher

Just in time for my Soviet army build Warlord released the new model below.

New: Katyusha Rocket Launcher

New this week – we have some supporting fire rolling up for the Soviets in the form of the long-awaited Katyusha!
WGB-RI-133-Katyusha-b

Our particular model is the Katyusha Zis-6 BM-13 Urss – based upon the rugged and widely used  Soviet Zis-6 truck chassis
WGB-RI-133-Katyusha-c
First seeing action in 1939, the Katyusha Rocket Launcher (know as ‘Little Katie’ to the Russians) was a system for mounting platforms onto trucks, tanks, artillery tractors, armoured trains and even some boats in order to provide fire support for the advancing Soviet forces on the Eastern Front.
WGB-RI-133-Katyusha-e
The BM-13 system (as featured on our model) featured rockets that were 80cm long by 13.2cm in diameter. Each one weighed 43kg – and were loaded in batches of 14-to-18 rockets per salvo. The rockets were mounted upon large steel racks of launch rails – and this entire assembly was (in the case of our model) bolted onto the back of the ubiquitous Zis-6 utility truck which was used elsewhere on the Eastern Front to shuttle troops to-and-from the frontline as well as equipment, and for many other purposes.
Though it was initially conceived simply as a cheap, improvised method alternative to traditional artillery, early tests showed that just four of these trucks could launch as many as 48 rockets more than 9km in a single ten-second salvo.
WGB-RI-133-Katyusha-f
In practise, the Katyusha was woefully inaccurate when compared to traditional forms of artillery – however the Soviets soon learned that the combined firepower of several trucks could be used to saturate a single area, to devastating effect. When combined with ‘Shoot and Scoot’ tactics of launching a quick salvo and quickly repositioning, before the enemy had chance to retaliate – German troops came to fear the distinct Howling sound of these iconic weapons of the Soviet army.
The inaccuracy of this weapon often didn’t matter – the morale-sapping experience of having your position bombarded by wave-after-wave of high explosive rockets would often be enough to send soldiers running and earned it the name ‘Stalin’s Organ’ by the Germans.
WGB-RI-133-Katyusha-d
The Katyusha first rolled onto the battlefield during the early days of the German invasion of Russia in 1939, and it remained in use right up until the final days of the war during the assault on Berlin. It is estimated that 10,000 of these Rocket Launchers were produced.

In Bolt Action

Cost: 64pts (inexperienced), 80pts (Regular), 96pts (Veteran)
Weapons: 1 forward-facing Katyusha multiple rocket launcher (heavy mortar)
Damage value: 6+ (soft-skin)
Special Rules: Multiple launcher

Warlord Games: BOLT ACTION New Blitzkrieg Panzergreadier Box

A little something to drool over :P

New: Blitzkrieg Panzergrenadiers

Providing a solid and mobile core to any Bolt Action early war German army our new Blitzkrieg Panzergrenadiers matches our plastic Sd.Kfz 251/1 half tracks with our excellent plastic Blitzkrieg Germans – perfect for invading Poland, rampaging across Europe or waging total war on the Bolsheviks on the eastern front! Even better it’s a great value boxed set saving you your hard-earned cash!
WGB-WM-511-Blitz-Panzergrenadiers-a
Whilst the glory often went to the armoured knights of the panzer divisions, the infantry were the spine of the Wehrmacht. Germany’s cunning use of Blitzkrieg tactics conquered Poland, swept through the Low Countries and defeated France, before turning their attention to the Soviet Union. Soviet forces were pushed all the way to Moscow as the relentless march of Hitler’s landsers swept all before them.
Well-led, superbly trained and equipped with the finest infantry weapons in the world, the German infantryman was a skilled and dangerous foe capable of thinking for themselves if needed, giving them a significant advantage over their foes. Vorwärts!
WGB-WM-511-Blitz-Panzergrenadiers-b
This boxed set contains:
  • 30 plastic Blitzkrieg German infantry with bases
  • 3 plastic Sd.Kfz 251/1 Ausf C half-tracks
  • Background and construction sheets
  • Waterslide decals

Detailed army lists allow players to construct German armies for any theatre and any year of the war, including the early campaigns in Poland and France, the dusty tank war in the North African desert, the bloody battles on the Eastern Front, and the final defence of Normandy, occupied France and Germany itself. With dozens of different unit types including Fallschirmjager, Waffen-SS, and the dreaded Tiger tank, players can assemble a huge variety of troops with which to battle their opponents.

Battlefront: Flames of War; Fate of a Nation Sale! 12-29 June 2015

The Battle of An-Nakhl Sale
Battle of An-Nakhl Sale
Six Days In June
The 'Battle of An-Nakhl' Arab-Israeli War Sale
It took the Israeli army six days in June 1967 to destroy the armies of their neighbours. To commemorate this conflict and celebrate the imminent return of the Desert Fort, we are having our 'Battle of An-Nakhl' Arab-Israeli War Sale.
For a little over two weeks we will be reducing the price of all Arab-Israeli War boxes and blisters by 40%. There will be no confusing 'buy two, get one free' this time - just a straight discount.
The Fate Of A Nation book will also be reduced to US$10.
Capped Shipping
We will be capping the price of shipping during the sale to a maximum of:
US$10 / €8 / £5
*Plus US$10 / €8 / £5 for each Desert Fort and Ruins included in your order.
(The Desert Forts will be shipping separately, and are such large, bulky items it would be too costly to include them in the capped shipping.)

What was the Battle of An-Nakhl?
After punching through the Arab defences at Abu Ageila, General Ariel Sharon’s 14th Mechanised Brigade raced towards An-Nakhl and the Mitla Pass to cut off the retreating Arab forces before they reached the Suez Canal. General Shazli’s armoured Task Force reached the old Turkish fort at An-Nakhl first, holding it long enough for the Arabs to slip out of the Israelis' grasp.
The fighting around the fortress is a perfect chance to use the fantastic Battlefield in a Box Desert Fort, with its unique special rules, which can be found here...
Battle of An-Nakhl Sale
Coming next week we will will have the Battle of An-Nakhl scenario for you to download...

Q: How long does the sale last?
A: The sale starts on 12 June 2015 and ends 29 June. The front page of the website will be updated once the sale is launched.
Q: I'm a bit confused about the capped shipping. Can you explain a bit further? f I buy 10 boxes or tanks, 2 Desert Forts and 1 Ruins, how much will I be charged and will the webstore show the correct freight?
A: The maximum you will be charged for shipping orders from the sale is US$10 / €8 / £5, except for orders which include a Desert Fort or Desert Fort Ruins - they will be charged an additional US$10 / €8 / £5 for each Desert Fort or Desert Fort and Ruins. Don't worry about the 'Shipping Cost' listed at check-out.
